Separation of church and state...?

First of all the 1st amendment reads thus: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Today it is common for  grievance to arise such as prayer in school or national day of prayer.

This amendment does not refer to separation at all, rather it refers to freedom. Liberty from tyrannical overlords and establishes that no matter what direction our country may head in the future we have certain completely  unalienable  rights that, may I add, the founding fathers believed were gifts from god.

The founding fathers used to open their meeting with a word of prayer. They spoke often of liberty and God. The founding fathers made very clear that congress could never pass a law that established one particular religion. They also made sure that congress could never prohibit any religion. We can and will always have the ability to seek out the religion that we believe to be true.

The right to come together as a people and unite for a cause. The right to choose for ourselves, the right to speak our minds on any topic in any forum be it in writing on the radio or in a public place so long as we are not violent as we do so. The right to sign petitions and call email fax or otherwise speak with our government officials and representatives and be able to expect an answer, a conversation and change.

This is a government for the people by the people not to the people at the people! It is time we remind the government 'Don't tread on me!' and  stop being afraid to say GOD BLESS AMERICA!
